Andal Announces Modesto Taxpayer Service Day Scheduled For October 4, 2000

Dean Andal, Chairman, State Board of Equalization (BOE) announced today that several federal, state and local government agencies will team up to offer a one-day, free tax seminar to Modesto area businesses. The seminar is designed to be a one-stop source of business and tax information for small business owners.

Date: Wednesday, October 4, 2000
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Place: Modesto Center Plaza
1000 L Street
Modesto, CA 95354

The taxpayer service day will start at 8:30 a.m. with opening remarks by Mr. Andal and Mr. Kenneth Stieger, Sacramento County Assessor. The seminar will include general information sessions as well as workshops tailored to suit the needs of the small business owner.

Workshops will be offered during the day. Some of the topics include:

  • Sales and Use Tax General Exemptions and Return Preparation;
  • Understanding Your Business Property Statement;
  • State Income Taxes and Small Businesses;
  • State Basic Payroll Tax Seminar;
  • Employee or Independent Contractor?;
  • Federal Business Taxes; and
  • Know your Labor Laws.

Representatives of the BOE, Employment Development Department, Franchise Tax Board, Internal Revenue Service, and Small Business Administration as well as other local, state and federal agencies will be present to answer taxpayer questions.
