Orange County Small Business Tax Information Day Scheduled for Friday, September 27, 2002
Are you a business owner who is feeling overwhelmed by tax laws and reporting
requirements? Perhaps you're unsure if you can claim exemptions, or maybe you need help figuring
out how Social Security affects your business. Well, help is on the way. Claude Parrish, Member,
State Board of Equalization (BOE), announced today that 19 government taxing authorities will team
up on Friday, September 27th, at California State University (Fullerton) to offer a one-day, free
tax seminar to Orange County businesses. The participating government agencies will have
representatives, information booths, and workshops tailored to suit the needs of the small
business owner.
The Orange County Small Business Tax Information Day will begin at 8:30 a.m. with opening remarks
by BOE Board Member Claude Parrish. From 10:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. there will be informal sessions and workshops.
Some of the topics to be covered include:
- Sales and Use Tax Return Preparation
- Employee vs. Independent Contractor
- Federal Employment Tax Responsibilities
- How Social Security Affects Small Businesses
- State Income Taxes and Small Business
- The Audit and Appeals Process
Participating agencies include the BOE, Cal/OSHA, Employment Development Department,
Franchise Tax Board, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Internal Revenue Service, Orange County Assessor,
Orange County Clerk of the Board, Orange County Treasurer, Secretary of State, Santa Ana Enterprise Zone,
California State University, Fullerton School of Business Administration and Economics, Social Security
Administration, State Compensation Insurance Fund, and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
