12th Annual Bay Area Small Business Seminar

Johan Klehs, Vice-Chair, State Board of Equalization (BOE) announced today that several federal, state and local government agencies will team up on Friday, May 17, 2002, to offer a free, one-day tax seminar to Bay Area businesses. Designed to be a one-stop source of business and tax information for small business owners, these events have been met with rave reviews. If you are a small business owner, you won't want to miss this event! You will receive a wealth of information and be given an opportunity to talk to the experts.

Time: 8:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.
Place: Hiram Johnson State Building
455 Golden Gate Ave.
San Francisco, CA

The tax seminar will start at 8:30 A.M. with opening remarks by Mr. Klehs and Art Hylton, IRS Area Director. The seminar will include general information sessions as well as workshops tailored to suit the needs of the small business owner.

Some of the topics to be presented include:

  • Sales and Use Tax Basics
  • State Income Taxes and Small Business
  • IRS Business Taxes
  • Employee or Independent Contractor? Avoid Potential Tax Liability
  • Help For Your Small Business: SBA Programs

Some workshops will also be held in Spanish.

Representatives of the BOE, Employment Development Department, Franchise Tax Board, Internal Revenue Service, Small Business Administration, as well as other local, state and federal agencies will be present to answer taxpayer questions.
