Klehs Announces South Bay Small Business Fair Scheduled for April 29

Johan Klehs, Member, State Board of Equalization (BOE) announced today that several federal, state and local government agencies will team up to offer a one-day, free tax seminar to South Bay area businesses. The seminar is designed to be a one-stop source of business and tax information for small business owners.

Date: Saturday, April 29, 2000
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Place: San Jose State University
          Student Union
          211 South 9th Street
          San Jose, California 95192

Klehs will give some opening remarks at 8:30 a.m. followed by Larry Stone, Santa Clara County Assessor and Mark Quinn, Director of the San Francisco Small Business Administration. The seminar will include general information sessions as well as workshops tailored to suit the needs of the small business owner. Free parking will be provided.

Workshops will be offered during the day. Some of the topics include:

  • Sales and Use Tax Basics;
  • Understanding Your Tax Obligation;
  • City Business Licensing;
  • Building Permit Process;
  • Marketing Your Business;
  • Financing and Business Assistance; and
  • State Income Tax and Small Business.

Representatives of the BOE, Employment Development Department, Franchise Tax Board, Internal Revenue Office, Small Business Administration as well as other local, state and federal agencies will be present to answer taxpayer questions.
