Parrish Announces Long Beach/South Bay Small Business Tax
Day Scheduled for March 3
Claude Parrish, Vice-Chairman, State Board of Equalization (BOE) announced
today that several federal, state and local government agencies will team up
on Friday, March 3, 2000 to offer a one-day, free tax seminar to Long Beach
and South Bay businesses. The seminar is designed to be a one-stop source of
business and tax information for small business owners.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment
Center located at 100 South Pine Avenue in Long Beach. Free parking will be
provided. Mr. Parrish and the Honorable Beverly O'Neill, Mayor, City of Long
Beach, will make opening remarks at 9:30 a.m. The seminar will include general
information sessions as well as workshops tailored to suit the needs of the
small business owner.
Workshops will be offered during the day. Some of the
topics to be covered include: Independent Contractor vs. Employee; Preparing
A Sales and Use Tax Return; INS Requirements for Small Businesses; Reporting
Requirements for Business Owners; State Income Taxes and the Small Business;
and Business/Personal Property Assessments. The day will conclude with the
workshop
"Know Your Rights - Problem Resolution Process."
Representatives of the BOE, Employment Development Department, Franchise Tax
Board, Internal Revenue Service, Small Business Administration as well as other
local, state and federal agencies will be present to answer taxpayer questions.
