Parrish Announces Free Seminar for Small Business Owners
Claude Parrish, Member, State Board of Equalization (BOE), is
pleased to announce the Fifth Annual Long Beach/South Bay Small Business Tax
Day, which will be held on Friday, March 8, 2002, at the Long Beach Convention
Center. This event is designed to be a one-stop source of business and tax
information for small business owners.
Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the convention center
located at 100 South Pine Avenue in Long Beach. Free parking will be provided.
Opening remarks will be at 9:00 a.m. by Mr. Parrish and by the Honorable Beverly
O'Neill, Mayor, City of Long Beach.
The participating government agencies will have representatives
on hand to answer your questions. The opening session will be followed by workshops
tailored to meet the needs of the small business owner. Five workshops will
be offered in Spanish. Agency representatives will be staffing information
booths to answer specific questions. The City of Long Beach is sponsoring the
event.
The following agencies will be participating: Internal Revenue
Service; Franchise Tax Board; Employment Development Department; State Board
of Equalization; Immigration and Naturalization Service; Los Angeles County
Assessors Office; Los Angeles County District Attorneys Office; Small Business
Development Center; Social Security Administration; U.S. Department of Labor;
Department of Industrial Relations; Center for International Trade Development;
City of Long Beach Economic Development Center; and Taxpayer Rights Advocates
Office.
Among the 16 workshops to be presented, topics include:

- Preparing a Sales and Use Tax Return
- INS Requirements for Small Business
- How to Start Your Own Business
- IRS Employment Tax Responsibilities
- Social Security Reporting
- Compliance with Federal Wage and Hour Laws
