Harkey to Chair CA State Tax Board & Join Franchise Tax Board
Sacramento – On February 23, 2017, at the conclusion of the Board of Equalization (BOE) February Board Hearing in Culver City, Member Diane Harkey became the new Chairwoman and Member George Runner became Vice Chair.
The Chair position of the California State Board of Equalization is also charged with serving on the California Franchise Tax Board.
"As Chair of the California State Board of Equalization and as the newest member of the Franchise Tax Board, I look forward to continue working with my colleagues to achieve the fair and equal administration of tax law to ensure all taxpayers are heard," said Harkey. "I am grateful for this opportunity to serve with such talented and experienced board members."
The State Board of Equalization (BOE) administers California's sales and use, fuel, alcohol, tobacco, and other taxes and collects fees.
The California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) collects state personal income tax and corporate income tax of California. It is part of the California Government Operations Agency.
Chair Diane L. Harkey was elected to the Board of Equalization in November 2014 to represent the Fourth Equalization District, which includes approximately 9.5 million Californians located in Orange, Riverside, San Diego, and Imperial counties, and a portion of San Bernardino County. Previously, Ms. Harkey served in the California State Assembly from 2008 to 2014. As a Member of the State Assembly, she served as Vice Chair for the Assembly Committees on Revenue and Taxation and Appropriations. Ms. Harkey graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of California, Irvine.
