Free Small Business and Resource Seminar Coming to Fairfield
Sacramento – Business owners, entrepreneurs, and people who would like to learn about running a successful business are invited to attend a free Small Business and Resource Seminar in Fairfield on Tuesday, April 4, 2017.
California State Board of Equalization (BOE) Member Fiona Ma, CPA, is sponsoring the event with State Senator Bill Dodd, Assemblymember Jim Frazier, Fairfield Mayor Harry T. Price, Solano County Assessor Marc Tonnesen, and the City of Fairfield.
"It can be challenging to run a small business," said Board Member Fiona Ma. "The helpful tools provided at this seminar helps California small business owners navigate California's often complex tax laws."
Those looking for assistance with state and federal tax laws and expanding their business knowledge will benefit from this event's informative presentations. Topics include basics of sales and use tax, employee versus independent contractor, forms of ownership, business marketing, and recordkeeping. Representatives from the BOE, Employment Development Department, Franchise Tax Board, Governor's Office of Business & Economic Development (Go-Biz), Small Business Administration, Internal Revenue Service, and the Small Business Development Center will conduct the presentations and answer questions.

Board Member Fiona Ma, CPA, was elected to the Board of Equalization in November 2014, to represent the Second Equalization District. She represents 9.5 million residents in many of California's coastal counties, from Del Norte to Santa Barbara, including the entire San Francisco Bay Area. Ms. Ma served in the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2012, serving as the first Asian woman Assembly Speaker pro Tempore since 1850. While in the Assembly, Ms. Ma focused on improving California, authoring legislation to create jobs and grow the state's economy. As an Executive Board Member of the National Conference of State Legislators, she worked to keep California's economy competitive with other states.
