Free Nonprofit Seminar Coming to Oakland

Oakland – On Monday, August 8, 2016, California State Board of Equalization (BOE) Chairwoman Fiona Ma, CPA, will host a free Seminar for Nonprofit, Exempt, and Grassroots Organizations to provide information about important state laws affecting them.

Co-sponsoring this event are State Assemblymembers Rob Bonta and Tony Thurmond, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, Alameda County Assessor Ron Thomsen, the California Association of Nonprofits, and the City of Oakland. Local nonprofit leaders are encouraged to attend, learn, and capitalize on this unique opportunity to receive information that can help expand and maintain their organizations.

Representatives from the BOE, Employment Development Department, California Association of Nonprofits, and Franchise Tax Board will offer assistance regarding sales and use tax, employee taxes, regulation of charities, compliance for exempt organizations, and property tax exemptions.

"Nonprofits are cornerstones for our communities and economy," said Chairwoman Ma. "They are critical sources of information, advocacy, and support, and they also provide steady sources of employment. I'm proud to partner on this event and connect entrepreneurs and leaders with the information they need to be successful."
