"Small businesses are critical to the economic health of our state and make up over 99 percent of all private firms in California," said Vice Chair Harkey. "My goal is to help entrepreneurs be successful and proactive by helping them understand and maneuver California's complicated tax laws."
Assemblywoman Young Kim, Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do, Westminster City Councilman Tyler Diep, Orange County Board of Education Member Robert M. Hammond, and Santa Ana Unified School District Board Member Cecilia "Ceci" Iglesias are co-sponsoring this small business seminar.
Although National Small Business Week, hosted by the United States Small Business Administration, runs May 1 through 7, the BOE has seminars and classes year round to the help entrepreneurs dream big and start small. No matter what type of business you may want to start or expand—restaurant, auto-repair garage, convenience store, or construction contractor—attendees will receive assistance on complying with state and federal tax laws.
At this BOE seminar, representatives from the Board of Equalization, Employment Development Department, Franchise Tax Board, Internal Revenue Service, and Small Business Development Center will conduct presentations and answer questions about sales and use tax, employee taxes, forms of ownership, and recordkeeping.
