DECEMBER

Community Service – The ARC of San Francisco Soup Service

On December 22nd, Ms. Yee and her staff had the pleasure of volunteering at the ARC of San Francisco's Thursday Soup Service. This weekly event draws hundreds of ARC clients, friends, and family members and allows for a welcome community setting.

BOE District Office Holiday Visits

On December 19th and 20th, Ms. Yee visited the four BOE District Offices in the First Equalization District to wish all BOE staff a happy holiday season.

Pension Reform Seminar

To broaden public understanding so it can make informed decisions, on December 8th Ms. Yee co-hosted a seminar with Oakland City Auditor Courtney Ruby, called "Pension Reform Explained." Alan W. Milligan, Chief Actuary with CalPERS, and Micki Callahan, Human Resources Director for the City and County of San Francisco put pensions into historical context, explained why pensions are such an important topic right now, and described policy changes that have been implemented or are being considered.

Capitol Fellows Alumni Association

Ms. Yee was excited to serve on the Elected Officials Panel of the Capitol Fellows Alumni Association at their meeting on December 6th. As an alumnus fellow --- Ms. Yee is a former fellow with the California State Senate --- she looks forward to meeting the incoming class each year of those selected to serve as Senate Fellows, Assembly Fellows, and Executive Branch Fellows.

Day of Inclusion

On December 5th, Ms. Yee was honored to join Assemblymember Mike Eng and the Organization of Chinese Americans at their joint reception recognizing the "Day of Inclusion."

NOVEMBER

California Retailers Association (CRA) Annual Public Affairs Conference

Ms. Yee was honored to address the California Retailers Association during the dinner event of its Annual Public Affairs Conference on November 1st in San Francisco. The event gave retail leaders a chance to discuss common issues among themselves as well as to hear from state government officials about resources to assist retail businesses.

OCTOBER

Silicon Valley Leadership Group's 5th Annual Women and Girls Summit

On October 21st, Ms. Yee spoke to young girls about having confidence and aiming high in life during a panel discussion at the Silicon Valley Leadership Group's 5th Annual Women and Girl's Summit at Les Mathson Middle School in San Jose.

Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute (APALI) Senior Fellows Program

Ms. Yee addressed the attendees of the Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute Senior Fellows Program luncheon in Cupertino on October 15th. Ms. Yee spoke about her experience as an Asian American woman elected official and her personal journey to attaining elected office.

10th Annual ARC Angel Breakfast

On October 14th, Ms. Yee joined community leaders and local officials in honoring the ARC of San Francisco at the 10th Annual ARC Angel Breakfast. Since its founding in 1951, the ARC has worked to enable people with developmental disabilities to maximize their potential, live meaningful lives, and become integral members of their community.

California Civic Leadership Institute (CCLI)

Ms. Yee was pleased to serve on the "Politics and California's Fiscal Health" panel during the League of California Cities California Civic Leadership Institute meeting on October 13th.

SunEdison Grand Opening

On October 10th, Ms. Yee was honored to join Governor Jerry Brown, Assemblymember Jerry Hill, and former Belmont Mayor Coralin Feierbach at a press conference to announce the grand opening of SunEdison's new headquarters in Belmont.

SEPTEMBER

Center Point, Inc. 40th Anniversary

Ms. Yee joined community activists and local officials in the North Bay in honoring Center Point, Inc. at their 40th Anniversary Celebration on September 10th.

Rotary Club of Oakland

On September 1st, Ms. Yee addressed the Rotary Club of Oakland with her perspectives on California's economy, the East Bay regional economy, and the budget challenges facing the state.

AUGUST

North Fair Oaks Community Festival

Ms. Yee enjoyed the North Fair Oaks Community Festival which took place on August 21st in Redwood City.

Los Angeles Stonewall Democrats HERO Awards

Ms. Yee served as the Honorary Awards Chairwoman at the Stonewall Young Democrat's 5th Annual HERO Awards on August 20th in Los Angeles.

Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) Sacramento 2011 Capitol Reception

Ms. Yee addressed the Organization of Chinese Americans Sacramento Business Advisory Council at their 2011 Capitol Reception on August 17th in the State Capitol.

California Asian Chamber of Commerce 2nd Annual Legislative Summit

On August 17th, Ms. Yee attended the California Asian Chamber of Commerce 2nd Annual Legislative Summit in Sacramento.

JULY

Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, AFL-CIO 2011 National Convention

Ms. Yee was honored to address the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA), AFL-CIO, 2011 National Convention on July 23rd in Oakland.

Independent State and Local Tax (SALT) Alliance Bi-Annual Meeting

Ms. Yee addressed the Independent State and Local Sales (SALT) Alliance, sharing her perspectives on California's tax structure and the effects it has on the state's current budget issues at their Bi-Annual Meeting on July 14th in San Francisco.

JUNE

41st Annual San Francisco Pride Celebration and Parade – In Pride We Trust

A life-long advocate for equality, Board Member Yee joined community leaders and elected officials at the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club's annual PRIDE breakfast. She then met with friends, community leaders, and organizations in the march down Market Street before a crowd of thousands demonstrating her friendship, support and solidarity with the LGBT community.

Chinese Herb Trade Association of America Inauguration Ceremony

Board Member Yee was honored to administer the oath of office to the newly appointed Board of Directors of the Chinese Herb Trade Association of America, an active professional organization that works to advance traditional Chinese medicine into the mainstream of Western medicine by providing support and assistance to Chinese medicine practitioners and related businesses.

Rotary Club of San Jose

Board Member Yee addressed the Rotary Club of San Jose with perspectives on California's economy, the South Bay regional economy, and budget challenges.

Los Angeles County Bar Association

Board Member Yee introduced the session and presentation on practice tips and appeals before the Board of Equalization to attendees of the Los Angeles County Bar Association conference, which featured an overview for current and prospective practitioners who represent taxpayers in appeals matters before the Board.

Oakland Asian Cultural Center Breaking Ground Celebration

Board Member Yee joined other Asian and Pacific Islander (API) elected officials and community leaders in celebrating the many successes of their community being represented in elective office at all levels of government.

Cal Alumni Association (CAA) at UC Berkeley Equity Scholarship Reception

Board Member Yee, in her volunteer capacity as Chair of the Scholarship Development Committee for the Cal Alumni Association (CAA) at UC Berkeley, spoke at a reception in Los Angeles about CAA's newest scholarship program, the Equity Scholarship, which is aimed at providing an economic incentive for California's high-achieving, underrepresented minority students to attend Cal.

APRIL

Easter Pancake Breakfast

Board Member Yee attended the 55th Annual Easter Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Wa Sung Community Service Club in Oakland Chinatown, joining Oakland Mayor Jean Quan and other community leaders to applaud the longstanding commitment of the Wa Sung Community Service Club in providing educational and charitable services to Oakland's Chinese American community.

MARCH

UC Hastings College of the Law Lecture

Board Member Yee had the distinct honor of presenting a guest lecture at a UC Hastings College of the Law State and Local Taxation class; she gave an overview of the BOE and her role as an elected Member, and discussed current challenges that could have fiscal impacts in the years to come.

82nd Chinese Medicine Day

Board Member Yee attended the 82nd Chinese Medicine Day celebration banquet in
San Francisco, and spoke briefly reflecting on the contributions of Chinese medicine practitioners in enhancing US-China relations.

Yee Family Association Dinners

Board Member Yee continued the Chinese New Year festivities with two traditional Chinese banquets hosted by her family associations: the Yee Fung Toy Banquet on March 20th and the Yee Shew Yan Banquet on March 27th.

Cesar Chavez Breakfast

Si Se Puede! Board Member Yee participated in the annual San Francisco breakfast in honor and memory of Cesar Chavez on March 31st. The event featured a musical performance by local students.

FEBRUARY

Chinese New Year Parade

"Gung Hay Fat Choy!" Board Member Yee exclaimed to the crowds from her red convertible, as she participated in the annual San Francisco Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade.

JANUARY

Swearing In Ceremony

Board Member Yee was sworn-in to begin her second term as the First District Member on the California State Board of Equalization. Ms. Yee took her oath surrounded by family, friends, and supporters in the packed, standing room only, auditorium.
