Holiday Volunteering

On December 13th, Chairwoman Yee and her staff took time to volunteer; they repainted the built-in chalk boards at the new Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center in Woodland, California.

50th Annual Moose Feed Luncheon

On December 12th, Chairwoman Yee and her staff attended the 50th Annual Moose Feed Luncheon, a proud San Francisco tradition celebrating the contributions of working men and women.

BOE 1st Equalization District Holiday Visits

On November 30th and December 1st, Chairwoman Yee visited the four BOE district offices in the First Equalization District to wish all BOE staff a happy holiday season.

Chairwoman Yee attended the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Annual Leadership Banquet held on November 20th.

OCTOBER

Hispanic Business Chamber of Commerce of Marin

On October 7th, Chairwoman Yee addressed the Hispanic Business Chamber of Commerce of Marin during their Hispanic Heritage Month lunch mixer; discussing California's economy, State Budget challenges, and BOE programs to assist small businesses.

International Committee of Artists for Peace "A Century of Women as Peacemakers Exhibition"

SFLC Pre-Labor Day Breakfast

Chairwoman Yee attended the San Francisco Labor Council's Pre-Labor Day Breakfast, held September 3rd, paying tribute to workers in the public and private sectors and their families.

7th Annual Capitol Ramadan Iftar

On August 24th, Chairwomen Yee joined elected officials and a diverse group of community leaders in the Sacramento Valley region for the 7th Annual Capitol Ramadan Iftar Dinner in Sacramento.

California Music and Culture Association (CMAC) "City Insider" Luncheon

On July 30th, Chairwoman Yee addressed the California Music and Culture Association (CMAC) as their featured speaker at its monthly "City Insider" Luncheon in San Francisco.

The 2010 Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy

Chairwoman Yee addressed attendees of the 2010 Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy at the UC Hastings Campus in San Francisco on July 31st.

JUNE

Sisters Rising Program Graduation Ceremony

Chairwoman Yee delivered the keynote address at the Center for Young Women's Development Sisters Rising Program graduation ceremony on June 10th -- many of the young women graduates of Sisters Rising live in poverty and have experienced extremely difficult life situations in San Francisco, and the Program equipped them with life skills and community volunteer experience.

Connecting Women to Power Pre-Conference Seminar

On June 24th, Chairwoman Yee gave welcoming remarks at the Connecting Women to Power pre-conference seminar, sponsored by Board Vice Chairperson Jerome Horton; the seminar, an introduction to the Spring 2011 conference, focused on issues of importance to women business owners in a global economy and featured presenters addressing global business opportunities.

40th Annual PRIDE Parade

As part of the 2010 San Francisco PRIDE Celebration, which turned 40 this year, Chairwoman Yee addressed the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club at its breakfast on June 27th followed by the annual and highly anticipated 40th Annual Pride Parade. A life-long advocate for equality, she marched before a crowd numbering in the hundreds of thousands to show her support and solidarity with the LGBT community.

MAY

Hispanic Community Affairs Council (HCAC) 28th Leadership Lunch

The Hispanic Community Affairs Council (HCAC) 28th Leadership Lunch was held on May 7th; the HCAC is a community-based organization in Alameda County that awards scholarships dedicated to expanding higher education opportunities for Hispanic students.

Generation New Afghan Unity (NAU)

On May 7th, Chairwoman Yee participated in the launching of Generation New Afghan Unity (NAU); Generation NAU is a youth-based organization aimed at promoting civic engagement among the Afghan-American youth community.

Visiting the South Coast Communities

On May 19th, Chairwoman Yee met with Merlyn Calderon National Vice President, Efren Barajas 2nd Vice President of the United Farm Workers (UFW), to discuss issues currently facing farm workers and to exchange information about tax issues that affect the agricultural community.

On May 19th, Chairwoman Yee was the guest speaker at the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce's monthly "Lunch with Leaders" event, she addressed issues relating to the economy and the State Budget and their potential effects on the San Benito county region.

On May 20th, Chairwoman Yee addressed representatives of the Santa Barbara Chapter of Women Accountants, focusing primarily on the new use tax reporting and payment requirements contained in AB 18 of the Fourth Extraordinary Session enacted by the Legislature in 2009. "It is important to understand the concerns of CPAs when implementing legislation, as these and other tax preparers are partners with the State's tax agencies in ensuring compliance by taxpayers," observed Chairwoman Yee.

Sacramento Stonewall Democrats' Annual Four Freedoms Awards Dinner

On May 26th, Chairwoman Yee was honored at the Sacramento Stonewall Democrats' Annual Four Freedoms Awards Dinner, Chairwoman Yee was presented with the Freedom from Want Award.

APRIL

Highlighting Resources for Taxpayers

On April 1st, Chairwoman Yee and San Francisco Treasurer Jose Cisneros held a joint press conference in San Francisco's Tenderloin district; highlighting resources for taxpayers during tax filing season, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and enhanced tax benefits enacted by the America Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Yee Fung Toy Family Association Spring Banquet

On April 18th, Chairwoman Yee attended the annual Yee Fung Toy Family Association Spring Banquet, presenting three resolutions a cknowledging the kinship and support the Association has and continues to provide to generations of Chinese Americans throughout the United States and the preservation of cultural traditions among the Yee Family throughout the world.

Visiting the North Coast Communities

Chairwoman Yee took time to visit the North Coast region of her district in March 2010. She addressed the Mendocino County Ukiah Chamber of Commerce, led a large roundtable discussion about the economic recession with several members of the Lake County Board of Supervisors and community members, spoke to the Humboldt County Farm Bureau at its regularly scheduled Board Luncheon, and addressed the Del Norte County Chamber of Commerce.

81st Annual Chinese Medicine Day Celebration Banquet

Chairwoman Yee was the keynote speaker at the 81st Annual Chinese Medicine Day Celebration Banquet on March 13th in San Francisco.

More Festivities Celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Tiger

Chairwoman Yee participates in festivities celebrating the Chinese New Year at the Yee Shew Yan Family Association Dinner, and the Hoy Yen Association Spring Dinner on March 21st.

Census 2010

In late March, Chairwoman Yee participated in several community-sponsored Census 2010 outreach events in these hard-to-count counties in an effort to help reach the goal of achieving a complete count in California. These events included a rally in San Francisco, and volunteer run events in Concord, San Jose and San Leandro.

FEBRUARY

East Bay Finance Address

On February 26th, Chairwoman Yee and Mr. Robert Ingenito, the Chief of the BOE Research and Statistics Section addressed the Alameda Finance Officers Group (AFOG), various elected officials, and community leaders from the East Bay.

100 Black Men of the Bay Area, Inc. 2010 Reception

Chairwoman Yee joined the president of the 100 Black Men of the Bay Area, Inc., and others at the organization's 2010 Reception. Speakers of the evening emphasized the importance of remembering the past and working together in the present to ensure a quality future.

JANUARY

Gung Hay Fat Choy!

To celebrate Chinese New Year Board Member Yee attended several traditional Chinese banquets hosted by a diverse array of associations. These events included the American Traditional Chinese Medical Traumatology Association 10th Anniversary dinner on January 15th; the Hoy Sun Ning Young Benevolent Association Dinner on January 30th.

San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade

All New Year festivities culminated with the San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade. Named one of the world's top 10 parades, it is the largest celebration of its kind outside of Asia. Chairwoman Yee's red convertible led the first unit of the vanguard section.
