HORTON: Thank you very much. 6 Members, as you can see, we have some very 7 talented individuals in the audience with us today. I'd 8 like to welcome the 2011/2012 Executive Fellows from the 9 Center for California Studies at the California State 10 University, Sacramento. 11 Welcome. 12 MS. STEEL: Yay. 13 MR. HORTON: Yay, glad to have you. 14 The fellows have joined us today. They -- I'm 15 presuming they had an opportunity to sort of watch the 16 Board of Equalization in action today to some degree -- 17 at least you were watching us in the closed session, but 18 -- which is nominal to what we actually do. But we 19 certainly look forward to an opportunity to meet with 20 you personally. 21 I understand that there's a program that -- and 22 we invite all the Board Members. The fellows are 23 welcome to proceed to the cafeteria for a welcome 24 reception by the executive team, where they'll give you 25 a brief summary of what each department does and try to 26 give you some insight into what the Board of 27 Equalization is really all about. 28 All the Board Members are welcome to come. And 3 1 please to all of you that are here, we understand that 2 you have a list of questions. We would ask that you 3 leave them in this room and not take them with you, 4 okay? 5 I'm just kidding. 6 But, in all seriousness, welcome to the Board 7 of Equalization. We are excited about all of the work 8 that you've done in order to get you here to this level. 9 We believe that you are the cream of the crop. And 10 we're just excited about your future, either here with 11 this agency or within the State of California, but in a 12 number of different ways. We're inspired by you. 13 So, thank you so very much. We look forward to 14 meeting you personally. 15 Members, any other comments? 16 Mr. Runner? 17 MR. RUNNER: I was just going to say, it's -- 18 it's a terrific program, congratulations for being a 19 part of it. It's -- it's very competitive and it's a 20 wonderful accomplishment. 21 I -- during my time in the legislature I had 22 eight fellows, eight years of the time I was there. 23 And, again, they were truly a complement to staff and to 24 the work that we did there. 25 And, so, we look forward to knowing that you 26 are going to be placed in all kinds of important places 27 here in the State of California and doing a great job 28 while you're there. 4 1 MR. YEE: Thank you, Mr. Chairman. 3 Also I wanted to add my welcome and 4 particularly during this time when the State is facing 5 some extraordinary challenges, that you have continued 6 to maintain an interest in the -- in what the State 7 continues to hold out relative to, hopefully, bright 8 prospects and a more healthy future. 9 This program has a soft spot in my heart. I 10 started out my career as a Senate fellow back in the 11 '80s. 12 So, welcome. 13 MR. HORTON: Yay. The meeting of the Board of 14 Equalization is hereby recessed.
