YEE: Our next item, please, Ms. Olson. 5 MS. OLSON: Our next item is a special 6 presentation of a retirement resolution to Ms. Jean 7 Ogrod. Please come forward, Jean. 8 MS. YEE: These are always bittersweet moments 9 for us at the Board when we have to say farewell and 10 obviously congratulations and best wishes to really one 11 of the finest on our legal staff. 12 And Jean Ogrod has been our Assistant Chief 13 Counsel overseeing our Settlement and Taxpayer Services 14 Division and has had a stellar 33 year career with the 15 State of California, having come into the State of 16 California and State service from private practice in 17 1977, joining the legal branch of the Franchise Tax 18 Board. 19 I'm not going to read this but it certainly 20 enumerates all of her terrific qualities and 21 qualifications in terms of the leadership she's provided 22 to not only the Franchise Tax Board legal branch but 23 also here at the Legal Department at the Board of 24 Equalization. 25 But I do want to say something personally about 26 Jean. She -- you know, there -- there -- you really 27 know that you come across a consummate professional when 28 you meet somebody like Jean, who's just always so 3 1 professional of the highest integrity, and so 2 well-balanced. 3 Most times when I see Jean she's actually 4 taking a walk. And it is just really remarkable that 5 amidst all of the chaos, the stress, the deadlines, her 6 staff I'm sure just kind of coming at you at all 7 directions, you're able to find that balance. And 8 that's something that I think has been a tremendous 9 lesson to me, personally. And I've taken that to heart, 10 actually, personally. 11 But, more importantly, for someone like Jean 12 to -- really has been a model of excellence in terms of 13 the quality of the work that she has performed and the 14 level of commitment she's had to her staff, and all done 15 with such grace and a tremendous sense of humor. 16 So, Jean, we're going to miss you. And I can't 17 say enough about how I'm sure your family are going to 18 be happy that you will have more free time, but thank 19 you -- thank you for everything that you've done for 20 this Board, and for the tremendous support you've given 21 us. 22 Congratulations. 23 (Applause) 24 MS. YEE: Before we hear from Jean, I know the 25 other Members would really like to pay tribute, as well. 26 So, Mr. Horton. 27 MR. HORTON: Yes. Again, Jean -- hello. Sorry 28 about that. Again, the best seem to be leaving when I 4 1 just get here. But I'm certainly pleased that you will 2 be enjoying your life and having a wonderful, wonderful 3 time. And I just want to thank you so much for your 4 dedication to the Board and to the people of the State 5 of California. 6 MS. YEE: Ms. Steel. 7 MS. STEEL: Thank you for your hard work and I 8 think every time I see people retire I want to do that, 9 too, and I want to go home every time I heard that. 10 Some day I do that, but enjoy your life and thank you 11 for hard work. 12 MS. YEE: Ms. Alby. 13 MS. ALBY: Thank you for the opportunity to 14 salute Ms. Ogrod. She's -- I -- you were here when I 15 arrived, and I bring congratulations and thankfulness 16 from Mr. Leonard and myself. And you were always so 17 very responsive to our office. We really paid attention 18 to those settlement cases and the Offers in Compromise, 19 and you were -- you had an open door policy. And that 20 was so very much appreciated by Mr. Leonard and myself. 21 And you're going to be missed here. 22 So thank you so much, Jean, for your great 23 work. 24 MS. YEE: Ms. Mandel. 25 MS. MANDEL: Well, I talked to you yesterday 26 but I'll say farewell again, and on behalf of the 27 Controller thank you so much for everything you've done 28 here and at the Franchise Tax Board.
