GAU: Yes, thank you, Madam Chair, for 8 indulging me just for a brief moment. 9 I have one more retirement to announce -- and I 10 probably won't be allowed back up on the floor once she 11 hears that I've done this -- but Kathie Newton, who has 12 served seven different Deputy Directors and has served 13 the Board for more than 40 years is leaving at the end 14 of this year as well. 15 So, she's -- she's truly a cornerstone and an 16 institution around here that will also me missed. She 17 does a lot of the calendaring for the -- she's an expert 18 in the State-assessed matters, which you're going to be 19 dealing with today and has just been a great asset to 20 the Board and a true public servant for this agency and 21 the State. 22 Thank you. 23 MR. LEONARD: Can you get her down here so we 24 can thank her? 25 MR. GAU: I don't know if I can drag her down 26 here or not. 27 If she's listening, I'm asking her to come down 28 for a brief moment. 3 1 MR. LEONARD: That would be great. 2 MS. YEE: Well, I guess the Board could direct 3 her to come down. 4 MR. GAU: That would have more weight than 5 me. 6 MS. YEE: Kathie, we respectfully request your 7 presence in the Board room. 8 MR. GAU: Thank you very much. 9 MS. YEE: No, but congratulations to Kathie for 10 outstanding service to this organization as well. 11 Wish her the best of luck in her retirement. 12 MR. YEE: Okay, Miss Newton, come forward. 17 We wanted to just take this opportunity to 18 thank you for your extraordinary service to this Board 19 and to this organization. 20 And from all accounts, you are going to be 21 missed big time, but -- 22 MR. YEE: -- and it's always, I think, those 24 who serve in your capacity that go unnoticed and, so, we 25 wanted to be sure that we acknowledged you and thank you 26 for coming down. 27 MS. I think that's just amazing. 5 MS. NEWTON: I've enjoyed it. 6 MR. CHIANG: We know your job was incredibly 7 hazardous dealing with all those people, so, we just -- 8 we're most appreciative. 9 MS.
