            4            MS. HOUSER:  My last item is an update on the 

            5   budget.  BOE's 2009-10 budget was reduced by 

            6   approximately $14.5 million.  In response BOE has 

            7   implemented savings plans which include a hard hiring 

            8   freeze and reductions in spending for all operating 

            9   expenses and equipment and including travel, training 

           10   and purchases. 

           11            The voluntary leave program is an important 

           12   element of the plan and is saving approximately $3.5 

           13   million per year.  

           14            Over 1300 BOE employees are currently 

           15   participating by voluntarily reducing their pay by five 

           16   to ten percent, and we want to acknowledge their 

           17   contribution to the savings plan.  

           18            This concludes my presentation.  I'll be happy 

           19   to answer any questions. 

           20            MS. YEE:  Thank you, Ms. Houser.

           22            MR. LEONARD:  This is the good news.  

           23            MS. YEE:  Yeah.  More to come, unfortunately.  

           24            I also want to echo our thanks to the over 1300 

           25   employees who are participating in the voluntary leave 

           26   program.  But for their participation the situation 

           27   could be much more dire for this agency.
