This is a History of the California State Board of Equalization. It recounts the events that occurred during the Board's first century of service to California,
and was written during the Board’s Centennial Year, 1979-1980.

This History is the culmination of extensive research and numerous interviews with former Board employees. It was written by Steven P. Arena, an employee in the
Board’s Sacramento Headquarters. The text was edited and the book designed by the Board’s Tax Information Officer, Sidney A. Mandel.
