The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free income tax preparation to individuals and families with household incomes of $54,000 or less. VITA volunteers have been trained and certified by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and are available to assist at locations throughout California.
Taxpayers should bring proof of identification including social security cards, wage and earning statement(s) from employers, interest and dividend statements from banks, bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit, and a copy of last year's federal and state tax returns if available.
The VITA program helps low-to-moderate income families and individuals collectively bring millions of dollars back to our state, enormously benefiting local communities. To get more information about VITA services in your community, call the IRS VITA hotline at 1-800-906-9887.
Information about VITA and other BOE taxpayer events is available on my events page.
